Alberto Ferrol, horse riding passion
Being only 17 years old, Alberto Ferrol Martínez already has his privileged place in the history of classic adapted tame. Spanish Champion after winning and international debut in Portugal, the rider from Coruña wants to go on adding titles. The next appointment will take place in Belgium on 30th August, where this young European will compete with the help of his horse Wikor. “He started to love horses when he was 5 years old” explains his father. “The horse riding appeared as a rehabilitation therapy to resolve his problem when he was born”, as Alberto has a motor cerebral paralysis which puts difficulties to move the right side of his body.

This was the reason how all started “he passed from the therapy to a club where he rode a normal horse” remembers Manuel Ferrol. The trainings and competitions became a way of life for the young man from Coruña.

The seized horses die of hunger

Yesterday the Police from Salta declared that their horses are well attended. The official veterinary César Giménez, admitted also yesterday that three animals have died (according to the complaint of Animal Protection Association) but assured that “they have been discharged because of being old-aged; here we keep 93 horses and they all are fed with balanced food and lucerne, with two daily servings”. One of the horse keepers assured that the published information by El Tribuno related to the complaint and presented by the president of APAN, Stella Morales, is the truth. Nevertheless, he clarified that the horses used for patrols and parades “live in stables and receive food and attendance. The ones which have been kidnapped have a hard time.”

Last week, explained ORIGIN, three animals died of cold and hunger. As it seems, the tender of provision of lucerne failed, because the supplier withdraw from his offer arguing that his numbers do not add up, declaring that he had offered 19 pesos each bale and because of inflation he could not maintain this price.

The horses and their care.

To start to build up a relation in the world of equines, it is important to start with a docile animal which is used to be ridden. It is recommended to start with a mare or neuter, because the young males without castrating often turn out to be nervous and difficult to be controlled, simply because they smell the female on heat. The best animal to get in contact with them usually is a mare of about seven years, which is used to be in contact with people and to be ridden; although the help of an expert is always recommended to acquire good technique and control on the horse.

The way to approach the horse is coming from the front, so it can se and hear us. The first step is to extend our arm, the way the horse can smell it and when we approach, we caress its neck with mild pads to demonstrate that we are not afraid.

The horse is in need of a minimum of cares for its welfare. A factor to keep in mind is its living space, where it should feel comfortable, so we avoid it getting nervous and to hurt itself. Neither should it be forgotten to visit the veterinary. This visit is recommended at least twice a year.
