Presentation of braids in horses
Braiding is an aesthetic question, showing an image of order and care, but it also has its practical part when there are animals with plenty of mane and tail. Together with the braid mane the musculature of the neck of the horse is seen. This way we can see,if the gymnastics done with this animal has been correct or not at any moment. During renaissance we see representations of horses of the Guerniere with the manes at the air; some time later we also observe Baucher and the Earl of Newcastle working with their horses with loosen manes and ends. Without any doubt it has been always understood that the always plenty hair of the Iberian horse was not only a symbol of decoration, but also of abundance and richness. An example of this are the engraving of ‘Marqués de Marialva’, of the XVI century, where we can see how they presume of different braids, all of them very elaborated and cared. We can see horses with several loosen braids, curiously on the right side of the neck of the horses.
